OUR BUSINESS

We introduce, sell and export finished apparel fabrics woven in the Bishu region to customers overseas

Centred on Ichinomiya City in Aichi Prefecture, the Bishu region has flourished since early times as Japan’s foremost wool textile district, blessed by the abundant waters of the Kiso River and a distinctive natural environment.

Today the world’s three great wool textile regions are said to be Huddersfield in the United Kingdom, Biella in Italy, and Bishu in Japan.

Every stage from yarn to finished cloth is completed within this region through a network of specialists working in concert. Spinning, twisting, dyeing, weaving, knitting, finishing — each process carries deep, highly specialised knowledge handed down over many years. Bishu as a whole may be called one large atelier and mill.

The quality this produces has earned the trust of leading brands in Japan and abroad alike, and the region continues to create textiles with diverse material combinations and rich new character.

PASTEL JAPAN CO., LTD. specialises in introducing, selling and exporting the finished apparel fabrics produced in this Bishu region to overseas markets.

We currently work to the requests of customers in China and Korea, handling fabric proposals, sales, production management after order, and export operations as a single service.

Send us a photograph or a swatch of the fabric you are looking for, and from the day after it arrives we will search the mills of Bishu for close matches and put proposals to you. These may include in-stock service items held as physical stock, or made-to-order fabrics woven after your order.

THREE REGIONS

The World’s Three Great Wool Regions

Bishu ranks alongside the UK and Italy as one of the world’s three great wool textile regions.
Where Britain and Italy sit close to their wool sources and draw strength from local supply, Bishu imports all of its raw material and has held its ground through the sheer quality of its processing. Its advantage lies not in resources but in technique and concentration. Specialising in imported fibre also brought a freedom of its own: the ability to choose the finest raw material from anywhere in the world.

Bishu sustains world-class quality because of one structural fact: the expertise is concentrated inside the region itself.
